Supervised Access
for non-custodial parents or family members

Supervised Access provides quality, supervised visit to non-custodial parents. Visits are supervised by a qualified Family Support Worker or Child and Family Counsellor.  Arrangements adhere to court orders and conditions and expectations are mutually agreed to prior to visits.  The priority is the safety and wellbeing of the child.  Successful visits offer a stress-free environment for the child and maintains a healthy relationship with the child's parent or family member. Visits are carefully planned and child centered.  They focus on creating an enjoyable experience for parent and child.

This service is not funded and is a fee-for-service.  Arrangements for visits and payment  is made prior to each visit.  Drop off and pick up are arrange in such as way as to protect the child from unnecessary negative experiences.  Objective observational reports are made available to both parties or their legal council.  Mediation is not provided and workers are neutral parties. 

Who Would Be Interested In This Service?

Anyone who has a court order permitting access visits to a non-custodial parent or family member including siblings.  Those who may need additional support in rekindling contact with their child after having little or no contact for a period of time.   Parents who need parent coaching to meet the needs of very young children. Visits adhere to the legal agreement or court order.

Location of Visit

Visits may be held at the offices of Cowichan Family Life or in the community.
