CFLA Christmas Hamper Program

Through Cowichan Family Life's Christmas Hamper Program, you can join with family, friends or colleagues to create a Christmas Hamper for one or more of the 40 families who will receive food and gifts this year.

We Ask That You Follow The "One Box Rule"

Please keep your hamper to one box only. To help meet this request, sponsors are strongly encouraged to leave the grocery shopping to the family by providing a gift card to a local grocery store. It's the best way to shop for someone who might be a vegetarian, enjoy ethnic dishes, have food allergies or a special diet, and it's easy to carry!

How Much Does It Cost?

For every member of a family, $50 should be dedicated towards a food gift card. Therefore a family of a single parent with two children would receive $150 in grocery gift cards. A small gift or gifts, approximate value $35-$50, could also be included in the hamper for each family member. You can expect a hamper for the aforementioned family to cost $275-$300. The gifts may be wrapped or you may include wrapping paper so that the parents can enjoy wrapping the gifts for their children.

Sponsors will be provided with basic information about a family; ages of the children and special gift requests. CFLA can provide suggestion lists for age appropriate gifts.

Hampers can be a laundry basket, gift bag, plastic tub or anything else. It's entirely your choice. Have fun with your presentation but please remember the "One Box Rule".

When Must The Hampers Be Ready?

All hampers must be delivered to the drop off location (empty storefront beneath CFLA) on Thursday, December 11 unless prior arrangements have been made. All hampers will be delivered by noon on Friday, December 12. Note new drop off location!

Our Program Respects Our Clients' Privacy

We respect and protect the privacy of each family receiving assistance. Our families are grateful for your help, but are often embarrassed by their circumstances; therefore, home deliveries by the sponsor are not possible.

Your Donation is Tax-Deductible

If you wish to receive a tax deduction, keep all your original receipts. A "Tax Receipt Request Form" will be provided to record your purchases for your hamper. If food gift cards are your only proof of purchase, please photocopy each card back and submit the copies with your form.

What Else Can I Do?

If you are unable to sponsor a family at this time, but still wish to help, we gratefully accept donations of cash, new toys or food gift cards. A tax receipt will be issued for all cash donations.
