Volunteer Counsellor Training
Cowichan Family Life provides a training program for screened individuals. The training teaches various counselling skills and techniques needed to gain insight and knowledge of a client's needs.
Reflective listening and solution building skills, as well as self evaluation, will be integral parts of the volunteer's personal and professional development.
Selection Process
We look for:
Your ability to commit to attending and completing the training program, as
well as being able to give one year of volunteer service upon
completion of the training.
Individuals who are self-aware, empathic, non-judgmental and committed to
their own personal growth.
All trainees are required to:
- Pass a criminal record check
- Sign a confidentiality contract
- Sign a one-year commitment contract
All trainees are provided with:
- Initial training
- Ongoing training
- Support and guidance by a Registered Clinical Counsellor
- Support of their peers
- Certificate of Training after completion
