ALEXANDER
FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
Family Center Calendar of Events
Mission
Statement: We build strength in our community through
nurturing and connecting families.
We believe that
parents are the most important teachers in their children's
lives. Together, you and your child create a sense of roots
and belonging by being this unique group, called
"family".
We recognize that
every family needs help or support at some time. At other
times, you are able to give support and help to others.
Alexander Family
Resource Center has been created to support this process.
Our overall goal is to
promote health and well-being of families by helping families
increase their developmental assets. When assets are
increased, the important people who make up these families will
have greater opportunities in their community and in their world.

MOTHER GOOSE
Mission
Statement: We build strength in our community
through nurturing and connecting families
Parent & Child
Mother Goose Program:
-
Parents and
children learn rhymes, songs and stories
-
By repeating these
throughout a child's day, the parent is creating opportunities
to strengthen brain development in a fun and playful way
-
The bond between
the child and parent is strengthened
-
The rhymes and
songs can be used to soothe a child or to increase playful
activity
-
Family time can be
created by telling a story at the end of the day
-
Friendships are
developed
Making Connections:
-
Researchers
believe that from birth to 3 years of age, a child's brain is
optimally ready to learn.
-
Every time a child
does something like look at a face, listen to a voice, see a
smile, touch an object or move his arms and legs, little
bursts of electrical activity travel through the brain,
causing connections and pathways in the brain.
-
If a child does
not repeatedly have all of its senses stimulated, strong
pathways will NOT develop.
Mother Goose
programs make building strong brains lots of fun!
They also promote developmental asset building
Participants feedback:
-
It is a definite
positive experience for the growing mind.
-
I wish there were
more programs like it.
-
It has been
invaluable for learning little songs/rhymes to do with my
baby; she loves it!
-
Extremely valuable
- the quality of parent/child interaction goes way up.
-
Supports early
childhood development and helps children to better grow &
develop to get ready for school.
-
Way beyond what I
expected. It was lots of fun for us both.
